Preliminary Ideas for 10.15.07 Internet 2 Exploratory Concert

For our first exploratory collaboration, I am considering bringing to class an electro-acoustic piece I've been working on and then see if there are any collaborative takers. It's something I'm preparing to submit for the NYU Percussion Ensemble concert, and features a percussion ensemble against an electronic texture created in MAX/MSP... however, because I'm scoring ideas for it with samples in Logic, a live ensemble may not be necessary for all presentations, and more visual attention can therefore be given toward a possible video and/or dance component. The background texture is somewhat analogous to a space shuttle take-off, a combination of thundering apocalyptic rumbles and cabin pressure formings, plus some gratuitous Star Trek stun gun effects. Some of it was made by running a "field recording" of an espresso machine through a bi-quad processor in MAX. Other contributions are from different waveforms/oscillators. The microtonal shadings between tones create beating effects at different tempi, and the percussion scoring mirrors these rhythmic gradations. I'd be very excited to have someone do something with it.

Take Flight Uncertain (scores & mp3s)

Alternately I have an orchestral recording that I'd love to put dance and visuals too. Named Rangda, it's the Balinese Hindu epic story of the struggle between Barong (good dragon) and Rangda (evil witch), usually re-enacted using traditional Balinese dance, but since my rendering of it utilizes Western instruments, the door consequently is wide open to other visual interpretations. I myself have photos of my trip to Bali in 2005 (not sure if they're hi-res enough though), it would be great to bring to life my personal experience there alongside the music that echoes a more ancient Balinese theme.
